Irish Thought for August 28...

The Famous and the Great

Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty

An Irish priest in the Vatican who, during World War II, made it possible for more than 6,000 members of the Allied Expeditionary Force to be safely transported to Switzerland so that they could be returned to their military units.  He also persuaded churches in Rome to protect many Jewish people by having baptismal certificates made out in their name.
