A Wee Bit O' Irish History
1595-1603
Hugh O'Neill, the Second Earl of Tyrone, led an uprising against the policies of Queen Elizabeth I, resulting in the Nine Years War. From 1598-1601, O'Neill was considered by his followers to be the King of Ireland. The English military defeated the rebellion right before the death of Elizabeth I.
