Irish-American Heroes
A rich merchant named Oliver Pollock (1737 - 1823) was celebrated for lending $300,000 to the United States during the Revolutionary War, assuring the victory of his friend General George Washington. Pollock is also credited as the creator of the dollar sign in 1778.
