Irish Murdoch
Born in Ireland, Irish Murdoch gained fame for her sociopolitical novels with themes of morality and the unconscious. Her first book, Under the Net, published in 1954, was selected in 2001 by American Modern Library as one of the 100 best 20th-Century English-Language Novels. Murdoch was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1987.
