Irish Trivia
The sweaters of the fisherman of the Aran Islands are woven with different patterns for each family, as individual as fingerprints. This tradition resulted from fisherman drowning accidently and their sweaters being the only remnants that returned to shore. The individual weave helped identify the fisherman who had been lost to the sea.
