Irish Thought for March 14....

Irish Poets

Arthur O'Shaughnessy

Born in London to Irish parents, Victorian-era (of the 1800s) poet Arthur O'Shaughnessy published three volumes of poetry in his lifetime.  By far his most noted and celebrated work is the beginning to his "Ode" from Music and Moonlight:  "We are the music-makers/And we are the dreamers of dreams."  These opening lines have been quoted by persons and characters as varied as Gene Wilder in the older version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Olympic hockey coach Herb Brooks in a speech to the Olympic team before they beat the Russians in 1980, and Roger the alien in the tv cartoon American Dad.

We have some additional color contest winners. Congratulations to everyone who won!
